Who Am I? 

I am an enthusiastic, likeable and knowledgeable person who gets on well with both children and adults. I have many years of experience as a teacher and also a wider experience of the world through working in a number of different professions. This helps me to provide the doses of interest & realism that makes my tutees appreciate that maths is not such a dull subject after all.

Qualifications & Experience

After completing my degree (BSc Maths) at Exeter University I worked as an Accountant. I qualified as a Teacher (PGCE) in 1981 and taught for 6 years in a Secondary School in Dorset. In 1987 I left teaching and spent 20 years working in IT in Industry (I am a Chartered IT Professional). I returned to teaching in 2007 and I am currently working in school locally as a One-To-One Maths Tutor. My most recent lesson observation rated me as outstanding and I have a current CRB certificate from that school. I can supply references if required and evidence of my qualifications.

My Approach To Tutoring

I really enjoy tutoring on a one to one basis because it means that I can provide a quality service in a relaxed and informal way. In an hour I can give my tutees the same personal attention that would take 20 or more hours in a normal classroom situation. I can monitor and feedback instantly on the work they are doing, giving them as much time and help as they need to fully understand. My aim is to build up the confidence of my tutees so that they they can enjoy their maths and fulfill their potential.

Where do I Tutor?

I prefer to carry out tutiion at my own home in Ashby-de-la-Zouch because I have internet access and all my teaching materials to hand. I am prepared to tutor in your home or another venue but I would have to charge extra to cover my travelling time and costs.

How Much Will It Cost?

My rate for tuition at my home in Ashby-de-la-Zouch is £20 per hour. I prefer to have hour long sessions so that the tutee has time to relax and immerse themselves in their maths. There is no minimum number of sessions - you can have as many or as few as you wish.
